The Preserve at Wynmar is a new community in Chantilly, Virginia, and this is our unofficial home on the web. Situated in western Fairfax county, our community is surrounded by parkland on three sides and parts of three other communities to the north. It's name comes from the name that the Lawrence family gave to their summer home, "Walney," just west of us in what is now Ellanor C. Lawrence Park.
Before our community was built, this land consisted of 13 larger lots (5 acres or so), which dated to a redivision of the land that occurred in 1970. In about 1998, Edgemoore Homes began buying up the lots for a new community, which would become their largest project to date. They ended up with 10 of the lots, and Brookfield Homes bought one lot (two large lots remain hidden in the northest corner).
In April of 2000, Edgemoore began selling homes and clearing land, and the first houses (Lots 88-93) began construction in May of 2001. Lot 91 was delivered on October 25, 2001, and the final Edgemoore home was delivered in the spring of 2004. Brookfield homes also built 10 homes, along Walney Park and Autumn Glory, which were delivered in 2002.
A total of 148 homes comprise the community, including 16 Affordable Dwelling Units (ADUs - low priced townhomes), 10 Brookfield homes, 119 Edgemoore homes, 2 1970s-era homes, and one historic farmhouse from about 1910.
